Place du Capitole, heart of the city
Wide and paved, Place du Capitole spreads its arcades under the façade of the Capitole, Toulouse’s town hall. Terraces liven up from morning, and the painted ceiling of the Salle des Illustres deserves a look. Meeting under the clock, then walking up Rue du Taur towards Saint-Sernin, is a classic and reliable way to begin a first stroll.
Saint-Sernin and the Jacobins
Saint-Sernin, the largest Romanesque church in France, raises its ochre silhouette and five-tier bell tower. Nearby, the Jacobins Convent and its famous stone palm tree, which supports the nave, leave visitors speechless as they look up. An afternoon date in these settings asks only for a decent pair of trainers and some shared curiosity.
Place Saint-Georges and the Pont-Neuf
Place Saint-Georges gathers the city’s lively central terraces, ideal for a drink after work. A short step leads to the Renaissance jewel of Hôtel d’Assézat, then to the Pont-Neuf, which offers a golden sunset over the Garonne. On Lyad, people from Toulouse share their favourite corners; it is up to you to find someone to walk back up the riverside.
